Evaluation of a Website Assignment 1)
Authority
The site doesn’t clearly state who wrote the document but it does clearly state that it was written by the Arizona State Senate, and passed by the Senate as well. The website only sites that it is from the senator’s office and was written by someone within that environment. It does not provide a clear link from the home page that reveals the author’s or sponsor’s motivation for establishing the site. It does not provide contact information
2)
Objectivity or Clear disclosure of advocacy The site’s purpose is very clearly to inform the reader about the three strikes law. It is very explicit in declaring this point of view because there is clearly no bias towards the law, just pure information about it. It is pretty clear the information is coming from the environment surrounding the Arizona Senate, whether it was a senator or just someone who was very well versed in the environment wasn’t clear. It is dedicated towards the general public that wanted to know about the law or was just curious about how the law worked. 3)
Coverage The topics covered in the site are very clear as they fully explain everything in depth in order to allow the reader to fully grasp the concepts and punishments of the three strikes law. Since this is
2
coming straight from the Arizona Senate then no evidence is needed since they are the ones who understand the law completely and fully. 4)
Accuracy There are no sources of information because it is information coming from the source so there is no need for sources to be cited. I can verify the information by going to a different sources within the same field. 5)
Currency The dates given on the bottom of the web page include the JUD, RULES, 3
rd read and when it was prepared by the Senate Research. The dates applied to the material and the placement on the web. It is still relevant because it was published not even 2 decades ago. https://www.azleg.gov/legtext/47leg/2r/summary/
