Valeria Perez Proffessor Brooks Sterritt Engl 3430 Short Answer Response #4: Although written messages have several advantages, they are not appropriate for every situation. Describe a situation in which you believe face-to-face, or telephone communication would be better than written communication. Name your preferred method and explain why it would be more effective. Written messages can sometimes be communicated and understood wrongly, sometimes it can be due to the “tone” that the person might understand the message in. There have been multiple times that I misunderstood a message that was communicated to me, and I would’ve preferred that it had been communicated to me via phone call or in person. The time that I would’ve preferred for a message to be communicated with me via phone instead of a message was when my grandma passed away in Mexico. She passed away after she had been hospitalized. She had already been released from the hospital and she was now at her home. My family and I had been in Mexico during her hospitalization but unfortunately, we had come back to the U.S. My uncles and grandfather had been able to stay with her to look after her as she was getting better, but my mother still paid for a licensed nurse for her to feel more comfortable as she was going to be watched and taken care of overnight. Unfortunately, about a week after she had been released, she passed away. It was not until the next night that my uncle just texted my family and I, informing us that my grandma had passed away. It was extremely devastating news, but my family thought that maybe my uncles and grandfather were to hurt to call, so instead we called them, and they did not answer. The next day they texted us to let us know that they were going to go ahead and proceed with my grandmas wishes and cremate her. My family and I were devastated as we felt the communication between my uncles and grandfather was completely off. In this specific scenario I feel as it is such a sensitive incident that my family and I would have preferred for my uncles and grandfather to at least give us a phone call. We understood that maybe they were also having a mixture of emotions that they felt a message would be better than calling us, but it communicated the wrong feeling. My mom felt as if her family didn’t care to call her to tell her such impactful news. I usually do not mind communicating via message or email, but I know there are certain things that are communicated more directly through phone or in person if possible.
#5: Think about the professional communities you are about to enter (education, business, psychology, etc.). What kinds of documents do you think those community members have to write and who are the typical readers of those documents? Take the possible readers you mention and try to list some of their characteristics (educational level, position within the organization, attitude to information, etc.). If you want to interview some community members to help you answer this question, you can. However, you don't have to. I am currently entering the Marketing community and I am very excited. I currently work at a marketing firm and we pretty much help brands expand their marketing by partnering up with google and helping them in the SEO, SEM and backlinking side of marketing. Before we even help these brands expand, we do have to communicate with them regarding their choice of marketing and the “keywords we are going to use”. To give the reader a bit of an insight, a keyword search is what goes within a website which helps it generate on the top searches when someone searches something up in google and it is looking for a service that one of the brands might provide. For example, let’s say a brand hires us to expand their cologne brand, we then optimize that website (sometimes the website is even created by us) and we grow their brand by coming up with keywords that will be implemented in the search of cologne. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is more of an organic form to market a website and we must present the client with what our ideas are before we input these keywords into their website search. One of the ways that we communicate this with the client is by using an excel sheet and sometimes even a PowerPoint. According to one of my friends Maria who used to specialize in SEM informed me how some of these PowerPoints in SEM (Search engine marketing) would take up to “an hour” with a client based on what their expectations where and what they wanted to be input. When it comes down to marketing, communication is key. We want to make sure that we are doing what the client expects from us and we are being able to show results at the end of the month. One of the ways that we show these “end results” at the end of every month is by using a statistic graph that represents what prospects have turned into actual clients. These statistics are drawn from a graph that show the amount of “clicks” that the website had, and the prospects that proceeded on hiring. These “clicks” are due to the keywords that were implemented by SEO in their website and helped their website appear in the top searches on google. In conclusion, communication with the client is as important to us as it is to them, we use graphs, excel sheets to provide the proper communication to our clients and for them to understand what we are trying to present to them. If there is a miscommunication it could affect the marketing that we provide to them and they will not be happy about the end results, that is why we always must stay in touch with the client and communicate everything to the client. #6: Find a website appropriate for your professional community (either current community or future community once you have your degree). Provide the URL for that
