EDUC 3052 - Demographics for the Field Experience Classroom Grade Level _ _5 ___ Total # of Students __ 20 _ How many male students? _ 12 ___ female? _ _8 __ Describe the area where the school is located (rural, suburban, city, town). Discuss the cultural and socio-economic make-up of the area. The school is nestled in a suburban town of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Cherry Hill is quite an affluent place to live. It is a place where many people go to start a family. It is 71.1% white, 6.6 black and 13.5% Asian American. There are 10.8% students are eligible for free and reduced lunch and 4.2% are English Language Learners. List any special features of your classroom setting (charter, co-teaching, themed magnet, bilingual, classroom aide, etc.). The classroom is set up for all learners to have a visual view for optimal learning. It is bright and safe environment. It displays all of the students work and is able to have a comfortable and functional flow. The desks are there for working together and can be moved easily as needed. Students are seated also in a way that help them learning, behaviorally and to help with any impairments. There are designated areas for learning.
Describe any district, county, school or cooperating teacher requirements that would affect planning or delivery of curriculum. The Cherry Hill schools district uses an overall curriculum for all of their schools. They use a Rubicon Atlas curriculum platform. They use Common Core, Blueprint for Student Success and Eureka math. Common Core exists with both Math and ELA shifts. Eureka math is a curriculum that is scripted with the idea of I do, We do, You do. It incorporates everything that a teacher may need to build up to reach the objective of the lesson. How much time each day is devoted to literacy instruction and identify and instructional programs or materials/resources? The school has over a couple hours a day that are given to ELA. The curriculum provides a script for teachers to follow so that they know what the goals and the objectives are. I think that it helps to have the idea to lesson plan if the curriculum is given and spelled out for them. Each teacher gets a prep period and also has time to pre during specials that the students attend. The teachers are always working with each other and it is good to see that you are never alone if you are stuck on ideas.
Describe the academic ability of the students in the class. The academic ability in the classroom is a spectrum. There are many students that are able to work fast and can process the information quickly. Then there are students who are in need of a little more attention but are quick to get back on track. There is a solid foundation classroom management. There is a good level of behavioral and classroom management. Some students need specific interventions and pull out as well. List below any students that have required supports or accommodations. List the number of students with an IEP, 504, specific language needs, gifted, struggling readers, second language learners. Example: 2 students with language delay Visual supports, pre-teach key vocabulary, and repetitive presentation 2 students Low readers- Wilson Readers 4 students IEP 4 students Specific Learning Disability
