Avrutis 1 Charles Avrutis Prof. McHugh ENG 122 01/17/2021 “Some Lessons From The Assembly Line” Analyzing Questions The context of “Some Lessons From The Assembly Line” would be the trials and tribulations of balancing work and school. Understanding that the constant back and forth of work and school life is hard to maintain. What we don’t get is the context of what happens behind the scenes with our character and his struggles with education and blue-collar work. This ties together with the type of writing style Andrew Braaksma has chosen, which I believe would be casual. I came to this conclusion based off of how casually the character speaks about his job and education to his friends and co-workers. The tone of this article would be, in my opinion, a sense of regret and accomplishment. I feel these two tones describe “Some Lessons From The Assembly Line” in a way that could be misled. Regret for the fact that the character doesn’t enjoy his work choices. Accomplishment for the fact that the character endures the choices that he has chosen and gets that sense of accomplishment from it. I learned how the character struggles with the life of work and education. On the other hand, understanding more of the context behind the scenes would make for more of a clearer understanding. A closer analysis of Andrew Braaksmas’ article would make for a clearer image of what goes on behind the scenes of the characters life. Learning some of the more definite times in the
characters life such as what his home life is like and what his future plans are. I believe the little things like these would not only make for a better understanding but also give the reader some closure as to what will happen in the future. These ideas would support Andrew Braaksmas’ purpose even more. The purpose being that the character is relatable to many people who struggle with the same problems of balancing work and education. I feel that Andrew Braaksmas’ “Some Lessons From The Assembly Line” achieved it’s purpose in relating to students doing the same thing the character is doing. That being to keep the balance of work and school. The character reinforces the fact that the factory has helped him appreciate and education, but to also understand the importance of hard work(Line 21). Such clues like this led me to this conclusion. Overall, “Some Lessons From The Assembly Line” is a great article that speaks to students that are goint through the balance of work and education such as myself.
