1 Week 3 Assignment - FIRST DRAFT OF CAREER NARRATIVE Jessica Parker Bachelor of Business Administration, Walden University ENGL 1010 Chad Husted December 17, 2023

2 The moment I decided to go back to school was a stressful but calm moment for me. I was juggling a lot with my home life and work life. I work full time and help my dad a lot at home. I am basically living paycheck to paycheck with little opportunity to save money. On this day, I had just gotten out of revival at my church. The guest speaker came up to me and asked me was I in school. I knew then that I needed to stop procrastinating and enroll back in to school. My mom and both of my aunties all retired from the medical field and while I was in high school, I always told myself that I was going to follow in their footsteps. After I graduated from high school, I attended Mississippi Delta Community College, and I obtained my Associated Degree in Applied Science along with my Phlebotomy Certificate and License. I was going to go back to get my certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology, but I was offered a full-time job as an Assistant Property Manager over an apartment complex. After 6 months I was promoted to Property Manager over an apartment complex closer to home. After my promotion I knew that my goal was to obtain a bachelor’s degree in business administration. I love the job I have now, and it is a great experience to help become the business administrator that I want to become. My current job has given me the chance to enhance my critical thinking and problem solving. Some people think that I just sit at a desk all day and only must collect rent on the first of the month but there is so much more to it. I must reach out to contactors when there is work that need to be done on the property that the maintenance man cannot do. I must reach out to utility providers when utilities have not been paid. I also must come up with solutions, budgets and more. Once I have finished school and receive my degree, I hope to be more efficient in Analytic Reasoning and data analysis. Being able to look at data and information that I don’t

3 know and come up with a strategic solution to help the business would show employers that I am the perfect fit for the job. Also having time management and getting things done in a timely manner will also show employers that I am serious about the job. It is always best to start on something as soon as it comes to me because I have more time to think and properly prepare as to waiting to the last minute and just throwing something together. My career as a business administrator has been driven by a passion for being able to run a business or help someone run and maintain their business in good standing. According to Businesses have the power to go beyond profit-making and become agents of social change. By prioritizing, collaboration, engaging stakeholders, and aligning their initiatives with societal objectives, companies can make a lasting positive impact (Andrew Dean ,2023). Businesses play a big part in society today. Being able to persuade or influence people to buy their product. Advertising and keeping up with the latest trends or even creating something new would impact society. By pursuing my goals and utilizing my skills, I hope to continue making a positive impact and promoting a more equitable and just society. Profits do matter but good firms supply far more than just profits for their owners: They bring innovations to the market, which in turn provide economic growth, employment, and significant improvements to people’s lives (Baumol, 2004; Baumol & Strom, 2007; Christensen&Raynor, 2003). Indeed, many of the new products people use today do not displace existing products; rather, they created new markets by solving numerous problems of consumers that previously went unsolved (Christensen&Raynor, 2003; Nordhaus, 1997). The social good is well served through new business innovation, which has created millions of jobs, generated hundreds of billions in revenue, and improved people’s lives by creating numerous useful products and services and making them available to an increasingly
