What is plagiarism exactly? Is it a matter of changing around words or substituting some words for others? The rules related to plagiarism actually are quite complex, and there are instances in which people who have unwittingly plagiarized have ended up in court. The concept of academic integrity includes the avoidance of plagiarism, and to avoid plagiarism, it helps to first recognize it. P ost by Day 4 an explanation of how you recognize plagiarism in literature. Explain the consequences of plagiarism at Walden University. Describe strategies you will employ to avoid plagiarism in your own writing. Plagiarism is using someone else's work and taking credit for it. Walden University (n.d.) defines plagiarism as “as use of intellectual material produced by another person without acknowledging its source.” When plagiarism is suspected, the instructor will provide written evidence of the violation and give it to the student who is being accused, to which the accused student gets to respond to the evidence. After this, the instructor will decide if the student violated the code of conduct and will inform the dean. Together, they will determine which sanctions to impose. The different actions include redoing the work, reducing the grade, getting a failing assignment grade, getting a failing course grade, academic suspension, or dismissal from the university (Walden University, 2010). A strategy I will use to detect plagiarism is to always proofread my work, revise my work, double-check my citations, and to double-check my resources. References Walden University. (n.d.).
