A Brothers Mental health
Introduction
It was a normal day for Clayton, so he thought.
He had just gotten home from school and
was putting his books away. Something changed. A smell in the air. No, someone he had never
seen before.
A dark headed lady who had walked into his home. Clayton didn’t realize his life
and everyone around him was about to change and not for the better and his sister unknowingly
was about to focus on a career in mental health. Clayton’s Mental health had been Genetically
passed through non constant epigenetics.
Previous Experience and Personal Ethos
I was twenty four when my brother had his first experience with his mental health condition.
Unbeknownst to him and my whole family he was about to take un unnecessary journey through
multiple medications and doctors. We were taught love and respect at a very young age.
Watching my brother continue through this well into his late thirties brought us closer than ever.
My Major Choice and Career Path
He was diagnosed at the age of eighteen with paranoid schizophrenia. He seen doctor after
doctor and was put on medication after medication, only for none of it to work. I knew then that
a mental health therapist was what I wanted to be. Frustration tormented my family over this as
mental health did my brother. He was put on so much medication that most of his life was spent
sleeping. When he wasn’t sleeping he was groggy he couldn’t understand or comprehend what
any of us were saying. Passion for this career grew stronger and stronger, the more this
happened.
