*MarketWatch (2022).
The information provided above overall depicts that Ford Motor Company was
greatly affected by the COVID-19 global pandemic. Ford’s sales in 2019 were down $5 Billion from 2018 and continued to drop another $28 Billion in 2020. Gross income dropped by almost an astonishing 50% from 2018 to 2020.
Before COVID-19 greatly affected Ford’s finances, Ford had implemented a strategy to reduce diminishing sales numbers. Ford announced in 2018 they would eliminate production on all full, mid and subcompact cars in North America and shift resources the booming side of the market: pickups, SUVs, and crossovers vehicles (Eisentein, 2018). This strategy initially paid off, but COVID caused 4 Ford plants to completely shut down halting production on their top selling vehicle, the F-150. In 2021, Ford began to show significant increases in gross and net income with smaller growth in sales and interest expense. Although still in negative or red numbers, COGS depicted a drastic improvement with cash & short-term investments
and total asset growths plummeting. Overall, Ford’s financial health and stability is thriving post pandemic

Mini Case Study
Five years ago, Phil Davis left his position at a large company to start Integrated Solutions Co. (ISC), a software design company. ISC’s first product was a unique software package that seamlessly integrated networked PCs. Robust sales of this initial product permitted the company to begin development of other software products and to hire additional personnel. The staff at ISC quickly grew from three people working out of Davis’s basement to over 70 individuals working in leased spaces at an industrial park. Continued growth led Davis to hire seasoned marketing, distribution, and production managers and an experienced accountant, Jan Smith.
Recently, Davis decided that the company had become too large to run on an informal basis and that a formalized planning and control program centered on a budget was necessary. Davis asked the accountant, Jan Smith, to work with him in developing the initial budget for ISC.
Davis forecasted sales revenues based on his projections…

Michelin is considering going “lights out” in the mixing area of the business that operates 24/7. Currently, personnel with a loaded cost of $600,000 per year are used to manually weigh real rubber, synthetic rubber, carbon black, oils, and other components prior to manual insertion in a Banbary mixer that provides a homogeneous blend of rubber for making tires (rubber products). New technology is available that has the reliability and consistency desired to equal or exceed the quality of blend now achieved manually. It requires an investment of $2.5 million, with $110,000 per year operational costs and will replace all of the manual effort described above. The planning horizon is 8 years and there will be a $300,000 salvage value at that time for the new technology. The income-tax rate is 25% and the after-tax MARR is 10%.
