Tutorial Week 5 Maritime Trade This exercise will explore Phoenician trade in the western Mediterranean through an examination of a shipwreck found off the coast of Spain. Please use the Reading by Polzer 2014 on The Bajo de la Campana Shipwreck, the map of the Phoenician sites in Iberia, and the map of raw resources in the Mediterranean to complete this worksheet. You will be divided into 5 groups and each group will choose one of the following resources discovered in the excavation of the ship to explore: Ivory, Tin and Copper, Lead Ore, Pottery, Luxuries and Exotica. 1. Which resource are you analysing? 2. Briefly describe the resource 3. Mark on the map of the Mediterranean with erasable marker the likely source (s) of this resource 4. Using the discussion by Polzer on pp. 239-242 of the article, place your resource within the likely trading route of the contents of the Bajo de la Campana ship. Note that this might include considerable maritime and overland trade BEFORE the ship was loaded.
