Renewable energy
State at least four facts about renewable energy:
-
The wind, the sun, and Earth are sources of renewable energy. These energy sources
naturally renew or replenish themselves. (National Geographic)
-
Renewable energy can play an important role in the U.S energy security and in reducing
greenhouse gas emissions. (U.S. Energy Information Administration)
-
Almost 5 percent of the energy consumed across sectors in the United States was from
renewable sources in 2020. (Center for Climate and Energy Solutions)
-
Large conventional hydropower projects currently provide the majority of renewable
electric power generation worldwide. (Center for Climate and Energy Solutions)
Describe four facts or ideas related to your selected type of renewable energy:
-
Solar energy can be captured “actively” or “passively”.
(National Geographic)
-
Active solar energy uses special technology to capture the sun’s rays.
(National
Geographic)
-
Passive solar energy does not use any equipment. Instead, it gets energy from the way
sunlight naturally changes throughout the day.
(National Geographic)
-
Advantages of solar energy include lower electricity bills, increase of environmental
health, sustainability, low maintenance, and it even benefits the electricity grid.

Based on your research, do you believe there should be continued investment and scientific
research in renewable energy? Explain why or why not:
Based on my research, I do believe there should be continued investment and scientific research
into renewable energy as more and more people rely on renewable energy sources as well as help
in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As more and more people begin to use renewable energy
as their energy source, many who have not switched over to renewable energy might not even
understand how it works. As it is a new advancement in technology, many people from the older
generations are seeing energy forces such as solar panels in which they have never seen
something like it before. I also believe that since renewable energy helps aid in reducing
greenhouse gas emissions, it is crucial to the health of our planet as more and more pollution
keeps entering the atmosphere.
