The entire landscape of convex hillslopes is transport-limited. The vegetation cover holds the soil together and reduces the erosion rate. The fact that almost all of the rock is covered with soil is due rock decay being much faster than rates of erosion (transport). In this landscape, earthflows create the hummocky topography. These failures are several meters deep and typically move at rates of meters per week (when they are active), but they can also move faster. However, most of the landscape is moving through an out-and- down motion called soil creep.
