Impact of New Energy Sources Generally on the Great Lakes Region The Great Lakes region will be impacted by new energy sources, of fracking technologies. Marcellus Shale gas basin located in the Appalachian region (WV, NY, OH, PA). The Appalachian Region is the largest natural gas production area in the U.S (Marcellus Basin largest source). Current total production nearly 35Bcf/d (billions cubic feet per day). Traditional demand for bulk commodities like coal, iron ore, grains is declining. GLC's difficulties. Opportunities: specialized bulk shipments of chemicals, petroleum and natural gas. need for dependable and efficient containerized commerce.
Logistics Supply Chain Issues for GLC Infrastructure and Equipment: In order to operate containerships, GLC must make investments in ships and port infrastructure. Intermodal Connectivity: Reliable door-to-door services require seamless interaction with the rail and trucking networks. Deal with problems brought on by icy winters that impair navigation and operating effectiveness. Meeting security as well as environmental requirements while transporting explosive commodities including chemicals and oil. Execute thorough studies to find potential for container traffic as well as bulk shipments to inform decisions regarding investments.
