2 Oil Spill Bioremediation Laboratory Introduction It happens more frequently than any of us would like to believe that oil spills take place within our waterways. This may have originated from the oil rigs that are located offshore or from the shipments that are traveling to and from their respective destinations. Oil spills can be cleaned up and properly disposed of, but the aftermath is harmful to marine life as well as human life if they are allowed to remain untouched. Oil spills are more common than you might think, and they happen in many different ways (oil spills, 2022) . The accident that took place in the Gulf of Mexico resulted in the release of more than 133 million gallons of oil into the water before the leak was finally contained three months later. This experiment was designed to find out what kind of impact soil has on the waterways in our area. This laboratory was designed for the purpose of allowing researchers to observe the effects that the chemical composition of oil has on water. In addition to this, the laboratory would have the researcher observe the chemical decomposition process that is used to clean up oil spills. “Oil Pollution can have a devastating effect on the water Environment” (The impact of oil on the environment, 2022). My Hypothesis for Both Tubes 1 and 2’s solutions should experience a change in color. An additive was added to Tube 2 but given that the oil that was used was yellow in color, I had the impression that this would also change the contents of Tube 1. For Tubes 3 and 4, I had the impression that the color of the contents in Tube 4 would shift because of the addition of additives. Both tubes 5 and 6 were moved to a different location, and my expectation was that tube 6 would have a more profound color contrast than tube 5. Yellow-colored oil was used in every tube, which raised the possibility that the colors might be altered slightly.
