Due Thursday There are many types of natural disasters that can impact humans, such as floods, droughts, hurricanes, and earthquakes. The aftereffects of some of these natural disasters can be devastating and can take years to recover from. Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words: Which of these natural disasters do you feel is the worst and why? Which type of natural disaster is most likely to occur in your area? Is there anything your community might do to be more proactive in preventing these types of natural disasters from causing such widespread damage? Explain why or why not. In my opinion, all natural disasters could be “the worst”. But, if I had to choose on which is the worst, I would have to say earthquakes. The reason being is that the meteorologists cannot tell you exactly when or where the earthquake is going to happen, but they can tell you about it after it happens. Some damage that I have seen from earthquakes around the world are catastrophic and heartbreaking. Honestly, in the part of North Carolina that I live in, all the natural disasters mentioned above is most likely to occur. My area has experienced floods, droughts, hurricanes, and earthquakes. Though the earthquakes that we experience in my area is nowhere near as catastrophic as they are in other places. Flooding and hurricanes are my areas number one disaster. Then, if it does not rain enough during the year we go through a drought. Earthquakes are the least of our worries, but they do happen here. I believe that my community could be more proactive in preventing widespread damage from these disasters. There are many preventative measures that everyone could take to lessen the damage. For example, flood proofing and hurricane proofing your home. Making sure that your home is not in a flood zone is the number one priority. If it is in a flood zone, take measures to lift your home off the ground more to where flood waters are less likely to enter. Making sure that you have wind proof or break proof windows could be another step. There are many more options that my community could do to lessen the damage of natural disasters.
