Agricultural Decline Due to Climate Change
Although scientists and farmers are often capable of coming up with their own solutions
to problems like the decline of agriculture, they are not able to do all jobs effectively just by
themselves. This is why we propose a solution where we adopt and develop technologies, such as
drones, weather systems, and even AI robots that have an abundant amount of knowledge on
farming techniques. Drones can be equipped with sensors to collect real-time data on soil
conditions, crop health, water usage, and pest infestations. Weather systems are integrated with
systems that can predict accurate weather forecasts. AI algorithms can then process this data and
make predictions about potential climate changes affecting specific regions. AI Robots are the
most convincing part of the argument, though. Artificial intelligence has proven in recent years
how effective it can be and its uses continue to expand, especially in the field of agriculture. AI-
powered robots can assist in various agricultural tasks such as planting seeds, applying
fertilizers, and harvesting crops. The robots can also be equipped with vast knowledge databases
of farming techniques and be adaptable to different environments and changing conditions.
These are all direct benefits and outcomes of developing and operating AI robots and
technologies in various ways throughout our society today.
Agriculture, the backbone of the nation, is facing unprecedented challenges as a result of
climate change. The once predictable rhythms of planting, growing, and harvesting have become
increasingly erratic, pushing American farmers to the brink. Because of this, our group decided
that the agricultural decline is a major problem throughout the United States that many are
unaware of. We proposed the solution to adopt and develop technologies, such as drones,
weather systems, and even AI robots that have an abundant amount of knowledge on farming
techniques. As a group, we believe that this solution will help farmers be able to face the
unprecedented challenges caused by climate change. The use of AI technology has become an
increasingly large topic as it is full of information. We planned to develop drones that understood
the weather and helped give input to farmers on different information gathered as in: crops to
plant, crop rotation, richness of the soil, water supply, and more. Agriculture is one of the most
important necessities throughout the United States as it provides us with vegetables, meat,
clothing, and fertilizer. Therefore, our idea of adopting and developing technologies, such as
drones, weather systems, and even AI robots that have an abundant amount of knowledge on
farming techniques contributes to rebuilding the decline of agriculture.
The best argument for this approach is the fact that AI is the smartest and fastest growing
data collection and use in today's world. AI is getting smarter at an extremely fast rate and it is
imperative that humans find how to use this tool to our advantage. Other alternatives to our
problem involve a lot of manual and human work. While this will work, it will work much
slower and less efficiently than an AI computer which can analyze problems and find solutions in
a fraction of the time. With the advancing AI technology, it would be very effective and efficient
to incorporate it into farming and aiding farmers in their work
.
However, there are still weaknesses to consider when using these technologies which
makes a lot of people skeptical about their reliability including the high initial cost, the technical
expertise required, and finally, the risk of farmers becoming too dependent on technology and
then not knowing what to do if it fails. With 45% expressing both fear and worry, over half of the
population in America are more worried than enthusiastic about AI's expanding application in
everyday activities.
Concerns include possibilities of people losing their jobs, issues regarding
security and privacy, artificial intelligence (AI) overtaking humans and human activities,
severing human bonds, and relying too much on artificial intelligence technologies. The use of
robots in agriculture faces a number of obstacles, such as high maintenance and upfront
expenses, loss of jobs, anxiety over robots fundamentally changing the emotional appeal and
culture of farming and agriculture, energy expenditures, and expenses associated with
development and research. Farming development is impeded by a scarcity of real-world
experience and knowledge, as well as reservations about embracing the latest innovations. The
industry does not have the facilities that AI supports, so less complex technologies need to first
be implemented. Because of a scarcity of laws and regulations and the dependence of AI's
performance on high-quality data, precision agriculture has been hindered by worries regarding
security, safety, and attacks and crime via the internet. However, we are in luck as all of these can
be addressed and improved upon. Governments and other stakeholders can make the technology
more affordable for the farmers using subsidies, farmers can be trained in educational programs
on how to effectively use and maintain the technology, and farmers should also always have a
backup plan. To reiterate, farmers would be the direct beneficiaries of or people who get the most
benefit from these AI technologies. With proper support and a focus on addressing these
shortcomings, technology can indeed be a powerful tool in solving the bigger problem of the
decline of agriculture in the face of climate change.
