Audrey Hudgens Professor Neff Towson Seminar 21 November 2023 Annotated Bibliography US EPA. (2016). Climate Change Indicators: Wildfires | US EPA. US EPA. https://www.epa.gov/climate-indicators/climate-change-indicators-wildfires This source is important in my research because it tells us about the impact wildfires have on this planet. It also talks about the various impacts' climate change has on our environment and how it affects the wildfire season. It provides data as well, on how wildfire frequency and damage has changed over time. This article will be good to use for my paper because it dives into two topics I will be using in my paper. Kim, B., & Sarkar, S. (2017). Impact of wildfires on some greenhouse gases over continental USA: A study based on satellite data. Remote Sensing of Environment, 188, 118-126–126. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2016.10.047 This source covers the various effects of climate change and global warming and how they may affect wildfires. It talks about the short-term and long-term effects these issues have on human health as well as the effects it has on nature and on the world. This article also talks about how damaging these wildfires are to this planet. I find that this source will be important for my paper because once again, it mentions two topics that I will be covering in my paper.
Climate change on wildfire activity : hearing before the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, United States Senate, One Hundred Tenth Congress, first session, to consider scientific assessments of the impacts of global climate change on wildfire activity in the United States, September 24, 2007. (2007). U.S. G.P.O. https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspxdirect=true&db=cat01451a&AN=towson.0035736 54&site=eds-live&scope=site . In this source it is talked about how different land uses and previous wildfire suppression have contributed to the recent increase in wildfire activity in some locations. There is evidence shown that wildfire activity is dramatically increasing due to climate change, and that this trend is expected to continue. It is mentioned that according to some studies, by the middle of the century, there will be 25–75% more acres burned by wildfires in the US as a result of global warming. This information will be helpful in writing a good part of my paper. R, R. (2022). Analysis of Increase in Average Temperature on Earth, its Causes and Wildfire Using Machine Learning Techniques. 2022 2nd Asian Conference on Innovation in Technology (ASIANCON), Innovation in Technology (ASIANCON), 2022 2nd Asian Conference On, 1–13. https://doi.org/10.1109/ASIANCON55314.2022.9909088 This source goes over the consequential effects climate changes has on this planet and how it has changed over time. It uses data and different sections to go over the impacts. It talks about how climate change has created increasing temperatures and how these rising temperatures may be a cause of the increase in wildfires. This will be good information to use in my paper in my climate change impacts section.
Mahmoud, H. (2023). The causes of wildfires are clear. How they burn through communities is not. Nature: International Weekly Journal of Science, 620(7976), 923. https://doi.org/10.1038/d41586-023-02687-2 This source shows how wildfires, which are driven by drought, high winds, and extreme heat, have caused significant destruction and losses in recent years. Enhancing knowledge about the causes and effects of wildfires is the first step towards developing measures for communities to reduce losses from wildfires. It talks about the causes of wildfires such as how they can be started by human activity (e.g., cigarette waste, power outages), and the possibility of a major fire arising depending on dry soil, plant roots, and nearby plants or debris. This information can be used in my paper in my wildfire impact section and the causes of wildfires section. Shi, K., & Touge, Y. (2022). Characterization of global wildfire burned area spatiotemporal patterns and underlying climatic causes. Scientific Reports, 12(1). https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-021-04726-2 This source explains how wildfires are widespread disasters influenced by global climatic drivers, with regional wildfires often having similar cause mechanisms. It talks about how variability in the climate may have an impact on wildfire behavior and explains the fluctuations in wildfire intensity. This source will be good to use while im writing my climate impacts section and my causes of wildfires sections.
