was led by professor Zhenhong Li. The researchers are using satellites to observe any movement
in potential landslide risk areas. This research is great to for future assessments of land and potential life security. Using what they have researched, people can find unknown or landslide hazardous areas to see if it is safe to house and build in. Researchers across the globe, professor Stefano Utili, a geotechnical engineer, say that the research can help inform people unaware of the potential hazards associated with landslides. Most people are to think that landslides only occur during the earthquake, but with this research people can know that landslides can happen anytime after any seismic activity.
Connection to GEO200: This article is correlated to some of the topics learned in our GEO200 class. The first and most obvious connection would be the landslides. Although in the article, the main focus is the earthquakes that cause landslides; Landslides are caused by many more things. This can be due to faults, folding, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and even normal weather events. Most causes of landslides were mentioned in our class. Something I don’t believe was mentioned in our class was the way landslides occurrence happening years after a prior earthquake. The article does just focus on earthquakes, but due to the class, we can reasonably concur that these landslides can happen years after a large volcanic eruption or unsteady soil from previous years.
