Making Your Own National Park Geologic Virtual Tour
In this final project
, you'll have the opportunity to learn about the many geological features in our
country's beautiful national parks. You might not realize this, but a large number of the national
parks were created because of their amazing geology. Just think of the geological features of
Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canyon, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and many more!
Use this website
for this project
:
the U.S. National Park Service's Website, to
create a presentation
demonstrating
the multitudes
of geological features of the national parks by designing a virtual tour
for high school geology students.
Follow the step by step directions provided below to guide you through creating
your virtual tour. The rubric has been included at the bottom to help you design
your presentation.
1.
Click on the National
Park Service's Website
to begin your research.
2.
Choose “Geologic Tour”, then scroll down under the title, click “ON THIS PAGE” and select
“Enjoy a Grand Tour of Park Geology”. Explore all the options to help you select a park to
study and collect information on its geological features that you could include in your
presentation.
3.
Choose all the geological features that apply to your selected park, such as sand dunes,
volcanoes and craters, canyons, river channels, coast geology, cliffs, caves, glaciers, rock
formations, fossils, geothermal processes and features. (Note: all parks will have most but not
all the features listed here.)
4.
As you navigate through the geology of your selected park, make a list of all the important
points that you would include in your project. Select diagrams, images, maps and words that
you could use to teach someone else about the geology of your selected park. When you are
done, search Google image for additional pictures of the feature you would include in your
presentation.
5.
Use all the collected information to create an engaging virtual field trip presentation for high
school geology students. This should entice them to visit to learn more about geological
features of national parks.
6.
Be creative, inspiring and persuasive. Demonstrate your mastery of the geology of your park.
7.
You will use Google Slide to create your geological virtual field trip presentation.
8.
Publish your document and share the link.
