Hello Dr. Beharry and Class,
Communication and an open-minded approach are crucial for successful conflict resolution. Modern healthcare organizations face unique challenges due to cultural and demographic differences, often resulting in conflicts (Burns, 2019). Applying either a collaborative or competitive strategy can help manage these conflicts. In modern healthcare organizations, conflicts arise due to cultural and demographic differences among patients, staff, and stakeholders (Burns, 2019). These differences can include variations in language, religion, ethnicity, age, gender, and socioeconomic status. Two distinct approaches can resolve these conflicts: collaborative and competitive (Burns, 2019). Collaboration involves:
Working together towards a common goal,
Focusing on mutual benefits.
Find solutions to satisfy all parties by considering everyone’s interests and creating a fair and reasonable plan.
Set clear values and straightforward solutions.
Bringing together various stakeholders in healthcare organizations is crucial to developing policies and programs that cater to the requirements of different patient populations (O’Shea & Debrun, 2019). Collaboration can also involve sharing resources, expertise, and best practices to improve patient outcomes, increase efficiency and reduce costs (O’Shea & DeBrun, 2019). On the other hand, competition involves striving to outperform others,
focusing on individual benefits, and achieving goals through a win-lose approach.
