Re: H.R. 7585 - Health Equity and Accountability Act (HEAA)
Dear Mr. ,
On April 26, 2022, Representative Robin Kelly (Illinois's 2nd congressional district) reintroduced the Health Equity and Accountability Act (HEAA, H.R. 7585), which aims to advance health equity and address health and health care disparities through systemic changes to create a health care system that is equitable for all communities. The legislation addresses the intersection of health inequities and race and ethnicity, immigration status, age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, language, and socioeconomic status (Cruz, 2022). This bill was introduced in the 117th Congress, which met from Jan 3, 2021, to Jan 3, 2023. Legislation not passed by the end of a Congress and did not receive a vote in Congress (GovTrack, 2023).
Health Equity and Accountability Act (HEAA, H.R. 7585) will reduce racial and
ethnic health inequities, address the maternal mortality crisis, strengthen health data collection and research, expand access to mental health care, target gun violence, improve language access in health care, and diversify the health care workforce. I am asking you to support H.R.7585.
Despite recent improvements, vulnerable populations in the U.S. continue to face worse health outcomes. Overall health and access to healthcare varies depending on race, sexual orientation, and economic status (Walden, 2023). For example, Americans living in poverty are more likely to be in poor health compared with those with higher income levels. The Health Equity and Accountability Act (HEAA, H.R. 7585) bill is to improve the health of minority individuals and is designed to address healthcare disparities. I am in full support for H.R 7585 to make our healthcare system more equitable and accessible for everyone.
This will help address the social determinants of health, reduce racial and ethnic health inequities, improve access for underserved communities, and address maternal health. This will also lead to increase access to mental health services by increasing the mental health workforce, integrated care, and mental health service providers with diverse linguistic abilities and utilizing community-based models of mental health care, health navigators, and telehealth.
Respectfully,
