20% of total final grade Description: Four topics have been identified by the Region of Waterloo Public Health. You will need to answer one question in greater depth: Health communication 1.
How can public health effectively communicate about the connections between climate change and health in a way that motivates action and encourages hope rather than creates despair or ecoanxiety? Climate change adaptation 2.
What adaptation measures can be undertaken to address extreme heat waves? Emergency response 3.
What considerations should be made when preparing a local collaborative emergency heat response plan for community implementation? Vulnerability and equity, diversity, and inclusion 4.
What interventions could be implemented to ensure that vulnerable populations are supported amid current and projected climate-health risks? Mental health 5.
What interventions could be implemented to support mental health through current and projected climate-health risks? To prepare for the final policy brief, you will submit a proposal. This proposal will provide an opportunity to strengthen the final submission. Note that you are strongly encouraged to review the assignment requirements for the final policy brief in order to prepare your proposal. You can work alone or in groups of two (2) or three (3) members (maximum group size is 3 members). Groups must be formed prior to the submission of the Policy
Winter 2024 HLTH 370 Brief Proposal. Once a group is formed, it cannot be changed. All members of the group will receive the same grade on both the proposal and the final policy brief (i.e., no peer assessment). Assignment Instructions
: For the proposal, you are required to answer the following questions (answer each question separately with the corresponding question number): Background/Approach 1.
What question from the Region of Waterloo Public Health do you intend to answer? (copy full question from list above) 2.
What idea or solution are you proposing to answer the question? How does this idea or solution connect to the question you intend to answer from the Region of Waterloo Public Health? (200 words) Impact 3.
Why would the Region of Waterloo Public Health be interested in or excited about your idea or solution? Is there alignment between this idea and previous initiatives or strategic plans? Does this idea or solution build the existing foundation of work completed on this topic/theme? (200 words) 4.
Is there a specific population/group/community that will be impacted by or benefit from your idea or solution? Why have you chosen this specific population or scope for your idea? (200 words) 5.
How will this idea or solution influence or improve the health of people in Waterloo Region? (200 words) Previous Evidence 6.
What evidence is there to demonstrate the feasibility of this idea or solution (e.g., Has the idea or solution been tried elsewhere? Does the idea draw on best practices?)? Why is this evidence relevant to the Region of Waterloo context? What is the connection between the evidence and your idea or solution? (400 words) To address this question, it may be helpful to identify and briefly describe a case study or example which demonstrates how your idea/solution was tested or implemented in another context or at another scale.
