You are asked to provide an information session to a local civic organization in your community. How would you define and explain population health, community health, and public health to them? (your own words, no direct quotes) o
Population health is defined as the outcome of the health of a group of individuals.
o
Community health refers to non-clinical methods for enhancing health, preventing
disease, and decreasing health disparities.
o
Public health elevates and protects the health of all people and their communities (Bresnick, 2017).

Select one of the Galen library databases to search for a current (within the past 5 years) scholarly article to demonstrate support for the need for population health-focused practice as you discuss the following two questions: o
Why is a population health approach needed to promote health and wellness?
A population health approach is needed to promote health and wellness because, as Giuffre et al. (2018) explain, if we ask one person to change what they are doing to promote their health, it may be a difficult task to complete when they are surrounded by others continuing the bad habits causing them to be unhealthy, but if we promote population strategies seeking to normalize healthier population behaviors so that things such as eating less fattening foods become more normal for the entire population, then it won't be as necessary to persuade the entire population to change their daily habits.
o
What is the nursing role in population health?
Public health nurses should assist in conducting research, educating the public, setting safety standards, and tracking disease outbreaks to increase public health (Giuffre et al., 2018).
