EXW 425: INDIVIDUAL WORKOUT PROJECT PART 2 - ASSESSMENTS/RESULTS/BASIC INTERPRETATION FORM Instructions: 1. Download and use this document for Part 2. Please submit this completed document in Canvas by the due date. 2. For each of the 5 categories of assessments: a. Select an assessment appropriate for your client; Briefly justify why you selected the assessment and how it is relevant to the client’s goals; Record either the client’s actual results or the results you anticipate based on your client’s activity level during the workday, weekend, and at leisure. i. For instance, when assessing cardiorespiratory endurance, if someone has been sedentary for years, or walks the dog at a slow pace every evening and does no other aerobic activity, the VO2 max test is neither safe nor appropriate. A less intense assessment is safer and makes more sense. ii. If you have assessment-taking experience and the necessary equipment available to you, you are welcome to do the assessments on your own, provide the accurate results, and detail your interpretation. b. Briefly explain what your client’s actual or anticipated results mean. i. For instance, if they do poorly on the muscular endurance assessment you chose, what will you have them do to help them to improve the next time you assess them? (eg., I will prescribe push-ups, 3 times/week). 3. Where can I find assessments for each component of fitness? a. The ACSM Guidelines of Exercise Testing & Prescription contains information on relevant assessments. b. ExRx.net (click on link) - Fitness Testing for the 5 Components of Fitness COMPLETE THIS DOCUMENT ASSESSMENT/RESULTS/BASIC INTERPRETATION FOR THE 5 COMPONENTS OF FITNESS CARDIORESPIRATORY ENDURANCE 1. What assessment did you choose? The assessment I would choose for the client is the 12 minute run test. 2. Why did you choose this assessment? I chose this test because the client is currently active, in good shape, and young. I believe this test isn’t very strenuous on the client but just right. The client reported they didn’t like running so limiting the test to 12 minutes is a safe time. 3. Why is it safe for your client? The 12 minute run test is safe for the client due to their current lifestyle. The client is currently active
and holds a very active job. His time spent sedentary is very minimal. 4. What were the actual or anticipated results? The anticipated results are a “good “scoring. Meaning about a 49 VO2 Max scoring. I anticipated the client would have a slightly above average scoring due to their lifestyle. 5. Based on the results, what will you prescribe so that your client improves by the next time you assess them? Cardiorespiratory endurance was “good” so I would prescribe the client do some deliberate cardio during the week. About 15-20 minutes 2-3 a week would be great to start. The client doesn’t like running so I would suggest biking, swimming, basketball, and elliptical as options. MUSCULAR STRENGTH 1. What assessment did you choose? The assessment I chose was the YMCA bench press test. 2. Why did you choose this assessment? I chose this assessment due to the deliberate exercise the client already participates in. He does resistance training on a regular basis. He also does bench pressing as part of his regimen. 3. Why is it safe for your client? This test is safe for the client because of his activity level. He already does this form of exercise on a regular basis and doesn’t experience any pain. 4. What were the actual or anticipated results? The anticipated results are a “good” rating and a score of 74. I anticipate this because the client reports lowering weight in his upper body days. 5. Based on the results, what will you prescribe so that your client improves by the next time you assess them? The client has a good muscular strength but given his age and the exercise he could have a better score. I would suggest the client incorporate bench pressing into his deliberate exercise twice per week and begin picking a more challenging weight. Also staying in the 8-12 repetition range for 4 sets. MUSCULAR ENDURANCE 1. What assessment did you choose? The assessment I have chosen is the push up test . 2. Why did you choose this assessment? I chose this assessment because the client works his upper and lower body often in deliberate exercise. This test will help get an idea of his whole-body muscular endurance. 3. Why is it safe for your client? This is safe for the client because he experiences no pain when weightlifting. He can complete the test safely due to his current activity status.
