Week 7 Reflection
This past week we have discussed the following concerning quality:
Definition
Ways to measure
Steps to improve
The four main problems affecting healthcare are:
1.
Technology
2.
Aging Population
3.
Continued Physician Education
4.
Overall Organization of Healthcare
Some of these issues could easily be avoided if mandated training was given to employees and staff. With the new technology available, the organization would have better quality if the employees and staff had training to use the new technology properly. The patients of the organization would benefit from this training as well. Annual or bi-annual education for physicians would help get everyone on the same page. With the medical field always changing, these educational opportunities are needed for the patient’s care.
An aging population brings a different set of concerns. The baby boomers are raising the rate of chronic illness. To combat this, prevention should be key. Regular check-ups, screenings,
and vaccines will go a long way to help the concerns related to the aging population.
Delivery of care relies heavily on proper communication and organization of that care. Staff, patients, and physicians need to have standardized way to communicate and educate where
needed.
In my future role in healthcare, I would like to see a standard EHR and MHR used. This would aid in communication, technology, and education to bring about a better quality of care and brighter outcomes.
