I would have to agree with you Kim on everything the OB/GYN talked about in creating an environment of ease. From personal experience, I had an emergency c-section, and I was not prepared for what I was about to go through. Thank goodness the nursing staff and my OB/GYN were amazing in how they handled the situation. The only situation that put some much stress on me was when I was getting my spinal tap and I started to have a reaction and that’s when the anesthesiologist stated they would have to put me under and mind you the OB/GYN already has started cutting me open. How could the anesthesiologist have handled that situation better? I was so scared.
The scale of measures is a wonderful idea especially with the mental emotional health side of it. This could help the providers and staff to be aware of the patient’s comfort level during each process.
In situations where one may not be prepared and is not able to utilize a personalized plan, it is important
for the provider’s and staff to have some drafted competencies on how to handle emergent situations like mine to reduce stress and fears. They need to have healing communication approaches ready.
