What are the positive and negative associations that you have with your own education? How is your educational experience similar and different to William Raspberry’s description of military-based schools? The negative association I have with my school is stressful academic pressure. Long hours of studying and more than 2 hours of homework for students are draining. Considering that students have a life at home such as house chores and cultural activities, students find themselves feeling stressed and anxious and find it difficult to manage both school and at-home life. This emotional academic exhaustion affects student's mental health because they are not having a balanced life. Social pressure to fit in is important because we all deserve attention at some point in our lives. We want people to not only like us but also talk to us. We want to feel accepted and wanted despite our differences in size or race. The positive associations I have with my school are exposure to different learning styles because you not only have to do a bunch of homework, but you also learn how to take on different tasks in life such as long working hours to succeed. We can develop critical problem-solving scales to learn different ways to approach life on our own. My educational experience is similar to William Raspberry’s description of military-based schools because of the pressure we as students face to perform on a higher academic level which is overwhelming. It is different from William Raspberry’s description of military-based schools because we have a wide range of resources and support from teachers and tutors.
