Dr. Buchino is an assistant professor in the behavioral sciences and health promotion. Dr. Buchino discussed her experiences working in several fields and how she used public health principles where they were required. As a director, Dr. Buchino also fought against homelessness. The experiences Dr. Buchino has had as a clinician fuel her enthusiasm for reducing inequalities in the social determinants of health and bringing about population health reforms that will eventually enable people to attain quality of life. I discovered from listening to her career presentation that it is never too late to shift to a completely different occupation and get knowledge from your experiences. She has conducted research on how the Affordable Care Act affects low-income and minority groups, and her work has influenced current local efforts to increase access to and use of healthcare services. Her experience has really inspired me to look into different careers and use public health techniques to mitigate inequalities in my community. I can completely relate to Dr. Buchino when she says that she had no idea what she would do when she was pursuing her undergraduate degree. I started my degree as a biology major, but when I decided to change my major, I discovered public health, whereas before this, I was unaware that public health existed.
