HCIS/140T: Fundamentals Of Electronic Health Records: Wk 1 Discussion: Using Technology in Health Care I believe that patients can update/modify and change their PHR and not their EHR or EMR because the PHR is designed for the patient, allowing them to add information if needed and track their medical journey. EHR and EMR are designed for the other side of the journey, the medical professional side, such as physicians, nurses and others who need to access the patient’s information. This allows schedulers, doctors and others to see things such as needed consults, images and other information in which they have received training on how to read to determine what is needed. The benefits of PHR include up to date information that the patient can put in, more efficient time management and allowing the patient to feel like part of the team, not just the patient.
