I. Research Focus: A. How does student attendance impact academic achievement, and to what extent does parental involvement influence this relationship? B. This focus is important to my teaching/professional expertise because it impacts our school daily. Our school report reflected a C this year mainly because of our SSQS score regarding attendance. Only 30% of our students missed five days or less. II. Introduction: Student attendance has a direct correlation with academic performance. Understanding this relationship helps educators and policymakers develop strategies to improve student outcomes. Regular attendance is often considered an early warning sign for potential academic struggles, disengagement, or behavioral issues. Researching attendance patterns can aid in early intervention efforts to support at-risk students. Attendance is also closely tied to parental involvement in a child's education. Conducting this research is going to help gain understanding of how parental engagement contributes to or hinders consistent school attendance. A. Student attendance impacts academic achievement and parental involvement has a direct corelation to this relationship. C. Magness Creek elementary school is located in Cabot, AR. There is a mixture of rural and city areas and includes many different socioeconomic statuses. There are currently 342 students enrolled, PreK through 4th grade. There are 42 staff members, and I am currently the Instructional Facilitator. Our SQSS category score was our biggest drop on our School Report Card for the 2022-2023 school year. The area most significantly
impacting that drop was student attendance. After analyzing last years data, only 30% of our students missed five days or less. I have also attached a chart displaying which grade levels were impacted the most. Attendance effects the overall achievement of the student as well. If they are not at school, they can’t learn. Even though we met our growth goal for ESSA, our achievement score dropped significantly to a 67. D. The results of this research will be applied to help increase understanding of the impact of student acieievemnt and to increase parental involvement in helping with school attendance. III.
