1. Determine if there are emergency procedures for the following;
a. Fire:
Yes, the IBI Behavioral Services have a fire emergency procedure
b. Missing children:
Yes, there is missing children emergency procedure at the IBI Behavioral
Services
c. Sick/hurt children:
Yes, IBI Behavioral Services have an emergency procedure for the sick
and hurt children
2. Describe the procedures and how often they should occur. If the above procedures do not
exist, explain why not.
Fire:
Fire drill takes place once per month at the IBI Behavioral Services in attempt to protect
children. Teachers and staff are aware of the fire drill evacuation procedure, the location of fire
extinguishers, exit points and assembly point should a fire alarm occurs. Teachers and staff each
have a designated role to follow during the evacuation. Should a fire take place, staff members
are aware that they need to call 911, activate the alarm and immediately start evacuation.
Teachers supervise their classroom and make sure their students evacuate to the assembly point
where they conduct a head count and wait for the supervisor to announce it is safe to go back in
after the firefighters say so. Children with special needs that require assistance also have
designated staff members to help evacuate them.
Missing Children:
In the case of a serious occurrence such as a missing child from on IBI
Behavioral Center premises, it is the duty of the supervisor to contact the police right away and
notify them of the serious occurrence. Then a missing children form is filled and the police are
informed with details related to the missing child such as a photo, outfit, or other relevant
information that facilitates the search for the missing child.
Sick/Hurt Children
: In case a child gets sick after attending IBI Behavioral Center, the child
will be monitored and the teacher or the supervisor would contact the parents to inform them. If
the child has any flu symptoms or covid symptoms, the child is asked to stay at home till the
symptoms get better or get a negative covid test. In case the child was sick prior to attending
school, the school will not allow the child to enter in case of any contagious illness or disease or
due to having temperature, or diarrhea in the past 24 hours.
If a child is hurt, the injuries are treated at school unless they are serious injuries for instance or
head injury then the parents are contacted to come pick up the child or depending on the type of
injury sometimes an ambulance is required.
3. How do the procedures relate to the ministry requirements and practices outlined in
Healthy Foundations?
These procedures encourage a healthy living and reinforces the concept that educators play an
integral role in maintaining and improving children’s
overall health. Elevating well-being is
fundamental to the students and their futures. Thus, in case of fire drills, missing children or
sick/hurt children, educators are responsible to maintain the child’s safety and well
-being. They
need to take the necessary measures to make sure that the safety and health of the child is not
compromised.
