InTASC standard number 7 is about planning for instruction. The InTASC Model Core Teaching Standards: A Resource for State Dialogue states the third standard for teachers as” The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross- disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.” Planning lessons in advance can create effective teaching by helping the teacher in creating a timeline that outlines the time allotted for each subject area and the portions of the material that will be covered each day. Thorough planning not only sets the classroom up for success, but it also allows the teacher to see connections within and between units that they may have not before which, in turn can make the lessons and units richer. The most imporatnt part of being a teacher when planning is to remember such things as instructional strategies, extra time, interruptions, modifications, and accommodations. For the lessons I taught during my level III field experience I planned my instruction using my knowledge of the subject matter, students needs(as much as I could), and state standards. Learning about your students and their learning styles will help you plan your lessons more effectively. I am aware that depending on the students' responses at the start of the unit plan, I might need to modify my plans. “Teaching begins before the teacher steps into the classroom. Prior to each lesson or unit, effective teachers identify what students need to know, understand, and do, using the curriculum standards. Effective teachers collaboratively determine how mastery of the standards will be assessed, prior to planning the lessons. Teachers then collaboratively plan content of instruction, select teaching materials, design learning activities, decide on pacing, and identify learning opportunities for students” (Barge, 2013 ( Barge, J.
