Economics of Aging- The stereotypical belief that many older adults are poor is not necessarily true. Healthcare Provisions - Medicare AND Medicaid: Medicare is the government program that provides health care funding for older adults and disabled persons. (Medicare Part A is hospital insurance. It covers inpatient hospital care; skilled nursing care following hospitalization; some cupational, speech, or physical therapists; and hospice services, but only after the patient pays an initial deductible and any copayments.) ( Medicare Part B- is medical insurance. It is optional but most people choose this coverage. This plan covers 80% of the “customary and usual” rates charged by providers’ fees, Medicare Part B covers: medically necessary ambulance transport; physical, speech, and occupational therapy; home health services when medically outpatient surgery or blood transfusions. Patient is responsible for the remaining 20%of the costs the difference
between the actual fee and the government’s “customary and usual” rate. ) ( Medicare C - Medicare Advantage Plans, are optional plans offered by private companies approved by Medicare to individuals who are eligible for Part A and enrolled in Part B.) (Medicare Part D- Prescription drug coverage, is a voluntary plan available to anyone enrolled in Part A or B of Medicare.
