A.
Trinity Community Hospital (TCH) has performed a community health
needs assessment for our region to determine healthcare services needed in our
local community this past year. The focused assessment evaluated our oncology,
cardiovascular, and orthopedic services. Based on data collected from multiple
sources, a health summary plan was developed by the administration to evaluate
significant risk factors, demand, and existing resources to address community
healthcare needs.
A1. Risk Factors
The community health needs assessment indicates an aging population
with a growth rate of 15% over the age of sixty-five in the next five years. The
anticipated aging population growth will create increased demand for oncology
services in the primary service area. According to the data 50% of men and 33%
of women are expected to have a cancer diagnosis once in their lifetime. Over
the next five-year period, new cases of cancer are expected to grow from 3,200
to 4,282 or roughly a 34% increase in cases[ CITATION Jim10 \l 1033 ].
Furthermore, our community health assessment highly indicates a growing
demand for cardiology services in the area. Angioplasty procedures are expected
to increase from 4,000 to 5,032 cases or 25.8% within the next five
years[ CITATION Jim10 \l 1033 ]. Coronary artery disease cases are projected to
grow from 54,000 to 65,700 in that same period in our service area, a 21.6%
increase. As for our diagnostic heart catheterization procedures are expecting an
increase of 22% with cases going from 10,800 to 13,140 over five
years[ CITATION Jim10 \l 1033 ].
A2. Addressing Needs
Trinity Community hospital is currently not meeting the needs of the
service area with our oncology, orthopedic, or cardiovascular services for our
service areas. How will we address these needs?
