Report
Chapter 12- Research Principles and Process Read the article The Growth in the Clinical Documentation Specialist Profession” from the AHIMA Foundation’s online research journal, Educational Perspectives in Health Informatics and Information Management ( Barnhouse and Rudman 2013). Week 6- Research Article.docx The assignment: You are to answer the following questions after reading the article. Your responses should be based on the article as well as the chapter reading in the text. When appropriate, cite references to support your answers. Use APA format when citing references. 1. Determine the research methodology used for the data collection on this topic. Defend this choice of methodology, meaning why is this research methodology the appropriate choice for this data collection? - The type of research method used to collect data on this topic is a quantitative survey, which is used to collect data about the growth and characteristics of the CDS profession. The survey was conducted among 1,367 hospitals randomly selected from a list of 3,620 hospitals that have implemented or plan to implement CDI programs and were stratified by size and type. 2. What is the response rate for this data collection and give your opinion regarding its significance? - The response rate for this data collection was relatively low at 23.3%. By having more or all 3,620 facilities participate, I believe the response rate could be higher than based solely on bed size, and duplicate responses should also be taken into account. 3. What factors impact response rate and how might those factors influence the results? - Because the study only surveyed certain facilities, factors affecting response rates are limited, but by surveying more facilities, the results would be different and likely to be higher and more accurate.
