1 Position Paper Part A Jana Mohamed Faculty of Health, University of Waterloo HEALTH 107: Sociology of Activity, Health, and Well-being Dr. Michelle Ogrodnik October 5, 2023
2 Step 1-Question selected: Should people in rural areas pay more for healthcare? Step 2- Get ideas going with ChatGPT: 1. Did the generated answer provide me with point for both sides of the argument? a. I think that the generated answer provided me with points were more one sides towards being against as it gave me many reasons showing how it would be unfair for people in rural areas to pay more for healthcare. For example, ChatGPT brought up the point of people who live in rural areas do not have the same access to health care compared to others who live in urban areas. 2. Does the information seem thorough and complete or are there other ideas that come to mind? a. I think that ChatGPT did a job providing me with information that stuck with the main argument and did not wonder off to other ideas. With every point, it gave me a good brief and complete explanation backing up argument. 3. Prompts used for follow up questions include: - What are other pros/cons for this argument? -Is there anything else I should know about this topic? OpenAI. (2023) ChatGPT (September 25 version) [Large language model]. https://chat.openai.com/share/58439750-dcb7-47e3-84fb-fc2641659d50 Step 3 -4 points chosen to review with ChatGPT: Pro 1: Market Incentives (OpenAI, 2023) Pro 2: Customization (OpenAI, 2023) Con 1: Health Inequity (OpenAI, 2023) Con 2: Emergency Care Access (OpenAI, 2023)
3 Step 3- Search methods After starting my research for the topic, I needed to know what terms I should use to find my sources as I struggle thinking of terms. I brainstormed some words that could be used to find articles on the topic of rural areas, price increase, and health care. I used PubMed to do my searches and used “and/or” to make my search results better. I made sure that the articles are peer-reviewed and were between 2010 and the present time. Some of the key terms I used to find my sources were: - Rural Areas AND (Price inflation OR increase of fees) - Rural Areas AND Emergency care - Rural Areas AND Customization - Rural Areas AND Market Organizations - Rural Areas AND Health Inequality After I was done doing my research in finding my sources, some of the results I got either did not have enough information or did not fit my topic theme. I then decided to change my searches based on what I wanted to find. For example, I would add more terms or remove terms based on what results I received and if that did not work, I then would change the terms itself to give me better results. When changing the terms, I made sure that they still had the same meaning but were more normally used giving me better and a larger number of sources to choose from. I wanted to make sure that I found the appropriate sources for both the pros and cons so I could make my own opinion based on the proper resources and information to back my argument up.
