IHP 510 Module Four Worksheet For this task, focus on a specific product or service within one of the healthcare organizations you selected from the worksheet (the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, or the Cleveland Clinic). You will complete a SWOT analysis to determine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to that specific product or service. For this and all worksheets, you are not required to include a cover page. You are expected to provide in-text citations for your sources and a reference list at the end of the worksheet. Based on your SWOT analysis, you will then propose an additional service or product to market for the organization, while also comparing it to a competing healthcare organization’s service or product. This task is designed to provide practice for the situational analysis, service proposal, and competition analysis that you will complete as part of Final Project Milestone Two in Module Five. To complete this worksheet, first review the module resources. Next, review the following webpages. Select one of the organizations and one of its product or services to analyze: Mayo Clinic: Products and Services Johns Hopkins Medicine Cleveland Clinic: Institutes and Departments Complete the following sections for the organization’s service or product that you chose. Replace the bracketed text with the relevant information. Part I. Complete the SWOT for the selected organization. 1. List at least 3 strengths and explain what makes them strengths. Let’s look at Mayo Clinic’s Telemedicine Services which is part of their digital health and virtual care services. Mayo Clinic’s strengths are; Reputation and Brand Recognition: Mayo Clinic is a globally renowned brand in the healthcare sector. Their reputation for providing high- quality care can contribute to the trust and credibility of their telemedicine services (Mayo Clinic, 2021). Comprehensive Care: Mayo Clinic’s telemedicine services not only include patient consultations, but also provide services for remote patient monitoring and e-check-ins. This comprehensive approach to care is a significant strength (Mayo Clinic, 2021). Skilled Professionals: May Clinic employs highly skilled and experienced healthcare professionals, which ensures high quality care and consultation in their telemedicine services (Mayo clinic, 2021). 2. List at least 3 weaknesses and explain what makes them weaknesses. High Costs: Mayo Clinic’s telemedicine services can be expensive, which can make it inaccessible for certain patient populations (Mayo Clinic, 2021). Technology Barriers: Not all patients are comfortable with or have access to the required technology for telemedicine services, which can limit its reach and usage (Mayo Clinic, 2021). Limited Personal Interaction: Despite
the convenience of telemedicine, some patients still prefer face-to-face interactions. This preference can be a weakness for the telemedicine services (Mayo Clinic, 2021). 3. List at least 3 opportunities and explain what makes them opportunities. Increasing Demand for Telemedicine: The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the demand for telemedicine services. This trend presents an opportunity for Mayo Clinic to expand its telemedicine services (Mayo Clinic, 2021). Technological Advancements: Advancements in technology and AI can enable better service delivery and an improved patient experience in telemedicine. Policy Changes: Changes in healthcare policy, such as expanded insurance coverage for telemedicine services, present an opportunity for growth and expansion in this sector (Mayo Clinic,2021). 4. List at least 3 threats and explain what makes them threats. Competition: Other healthcare providers are also offering telemedicine services, which increases competition (Mayo Clinic, 2021). Regulatory Changes: Changes in healthcare regulations or reimbursement policies can potentially impact the telemedicine sector negatively (Mayo Clinic, 2021). Cybersecurity Threats: Telemedicine services involve the transfer of sensitive patient data, which can be vulnerable to cyber- attacks (Mayo Clinic, 2021). 5. After completing the SWOT components for the chosen organization, address the following: What additional service or product would you propose to market for this organization? Why? Based on the SWOT analysis, and additional service that Mayo Clinic could consider is the establishment of a dedicated Telemedicine Education and Support Program. This could help address the weakness related to their patients’ technological barriers and discomfort, by providing training and support to help patients get comfortable with telemedicine technology. In making your proposal, identify a competing healthcare organization’s similar service or product— one that you think is effective. Below, identify the service/product and briefly describe why you feel it is successful. Cleveland Clinic offers a similar service called “Express Care Online”, a virtual visit program (Cleveland Clinic, 2021). This program is successful because it provides convenient, 24/7 care to patients, and has also incorporated educational resources to help patients understand how to use their service.
