CMS plans are a wonderful resource for both new and old teachers to use. These plans are the foundation for teachers to create a plan for what is expected within their classroom. This gives the teachers, as well as students, a clear outline of what is to be expected. While creating my own CMS plan these past couple of weeks, I have gathered many tips and tricks to put into my own future CMS plan for my classroom. In this paper I will be writing about a few different topics that stuck out to me while creating my own CMS plan. Consistency is the upmost important topic I would place in my own future CMS plan. Our textbook states “the most important thing to establish in the first week of school is CONSISTENCY.” (Wong & Wong, page 13) While working in a classroom for the past year I have learned that consistency is incredibly essential for a well ran classroom. When there is a consistent schedule and expectations in the classroom, students thrive exceptionally. Once students understand the expectations and routines within the classroom, the students will be far more productive than students who do not have consistency in the classroom. Another topic that I found interesting, and I will include in my CMS plan is being organized. Organization in a classroom is incredibly important in a well-oiled classroom. When being a teacher it is crucial to be prepared for the day, eager to teach, and have our materials organized and ready for our students. A classroom that is not well organized creates an atmosphere of chaos and makes it incredibly difficult for students to learn. As with consistency, it is important for classrooms, teachers, and students to be organized. Another important topic that will be in my future classroom CMS plan is bell work. Bell work is important for students because once they arrive in the classroom they have something to keep themselves occupied so that teachers can take care of morning tasks such as; taking
attendance, lunch count, and many more morning responsibilities. Without bell work a classroom can become chaotic, and this can send the rest of the day into a trajectory of a down fall. Lastly, a very important topic that I have learned during this course and a CMS plan is having a daily agenda to follow. When students have their daily agenda placed in the same spot, and always available it leaves no room for students to not know what they are going to learn for the day. When students have the information for the day in front of them any anxieties about the day’s tasks can be put to rest. Also, daily agendas allow older students to gather any of the relevant materials for their day and be prepared to start their day. Another great example of why daily agendas are important is that they not only help students, they can also assist teachers to keep track of what is on the agenda for the day. These are just a few reasons that I have discovered that CMS plans are incredibly important for both new and old teachers. In my future classroom I will definitely be utilizing CMS plans.
