Hello, Professor and Class!!
A global health concern that has impacted my community as well as other communities is HIV. However,
HIV in Miami-Dade County has an incidence of 1,213 per 100,000 population, whereas the state of Florida is 615, the southeastern region is 451, and the whole United States is 380 per 100,000 (Miami-
Dade County, 2020). I know there are so many signs and billboards throughout the Miami area that discuss STD and HIV awareness and to get checked. Honestly, I never thought of it to be a big problem until I entered the healthcare force and began looking at statistics about our communities in the beginning of this class. When looking at this data, I believe an EHR can be a great tool for surveillance of data. This would be because when patients come into the facility, we can document an HIV status and if they consent to an HIV test and are positive, we can also document the HIV status. Another great tool would be the county surveillance systems from the county health departments. We do not use this (I don’t think we do) in my
current practice; however, we do use the EHR to document all findings related to HIV. A tweet that focuses on HIV is: https://twitter.com/hivgov
Something I would use is this tweet https://twitter.com/HIVGov/status/1583208952073834498?

The collaboration could include efforts from a community health nurse to help improve knowledge and awareness for people in the community, using appropriate health literacy to spread awareness. A tweet I would like to use would be: Reducing HIV stigma is important in our community, lets break it apart together! #HIVStigma #WeGotThis #GetTested
