Instructions:
●
Provide your own reflections to the following questions.
●
Remember there are no right or wrong answers.
●
Please be genuine in submitting what you think or believe.
General Tips on Self-Reflection:
●
"Reflection is a thinking process that occurs before, during and/or after situations with
the purpose of developing greater understanding of oneself and events so that future
encounters can be improved.” (University of Alberta course INT410 worksheet)
●
A self-reflection is about YOUR thoughts and feelings. It is YOUR perspective and
reflection based on YOUR previous experience and knowledge. This is a skill you should
be developing for lifelong learning.
●
Here is a link to a short video to help you get started:

●
If a question asks you what YOU think, then your response should be worded in the first
person. This means your response will include words like 'I will...' or 'I think...' If your
responses are in the third person ('physiotherapists should...') I will be asking you to
re-do your assignment.
●
Many of the self-reflections ask you to compare the Canadian physiotherapy practice
with where you are now. For those of you who are currently in Canada, compare with
the country that you did your training in or where you worked outside of Canada.

Physiotherapy Practice in Canada
Module 5 - Self-Reflection Worksheet
If successful in becoming credentialed to work in Canada you will likely need to work under
supervision of a licensed physiotherapist until you can complete the Physiotherapy
Competency Exam. Now that you understand more about the supervision requirements of
physiotherapists, how do you feel about being supervised and what do you think may be
the biggest challenges when working under supervision?
This means PT's assess/treat patients independently - no one is limiting PT's autonomy. No one is telling you
what to do. Supervision is a mentorship with support/guidance.
NOTE: This is NOT asking about Supervision and being a Physical Therapy Assistant.
There are 2 parts to this question.
1) How do you feel about being supervised?
2) What are the biggest challenges to working under supervision?
The question asks how do you feel about being supervised and what do you think may be the biggest challenges
to working under supervision as a Physiotherapist Intern in Canada. Please review what the role of a PT intern in
Canada has to do. Everyone in Canada has to follow the same regulations to become licensed.
Physiotherapist interns are regulated members on the Provisional Register. Supervision is a condition on their
practice permit until they meet all the requirements to be admitted to the General Register. As regulated
members, physiotherapist interns are held to the same Standards of Practice as any other member. The condition
of supervision allows the physiotherapist intern to practice with oversight and the need for public protection is
balanced with the value of adding interns into the workforce.
