Case 15: Developing an IT Strategic Plan The University of Arizona Global Campus MHA 616 Health Care Management Information Systems
2
Case 15: Developing an IT Strategic Plan The Meadow Hills Hospital is a well-run organization that has established a solid rapport with its local community (Wager et al., 2022). To create a strategy plan for information technology (IT), Meadow Hills Hospital must recruit a chief information officer (CIO) (Wager et al., 2022). The
Meadow Hills Hospital organization and patient access would highly benefit from updating its electronic health records (EHR) system. Meadow Hills Hospital must hire more IT support for the Meadow Hills Clinical Laboratory and Imaging Center to make the jobs of the providers and technicians less stressful (Wager et al., 2022). An organization's connection with its IT investment is made stable and transparent by IT strategic planning (Wager et al., 2022). There will be a return on investment (ROI) for Meadow Hills Hospital if they invest in their IT department. Impacts of IT Strategic Planning Currently, at Meadow Hills Hospital, all IT functions and decisions are reported to the CFO (Wager et al., 2022). The Meadow Hills Hospital's new CIO would take over this responsibility and alleviate a significant amount of stress and responsibility from senior executives. To determine the IT implications of initiatives to enhance EHRs, the CIO would collaborate closely with the CFOs. The CIO will evaluate the impact of strategic alternatives on IT and pinpoint areas where innovative ways to implement a strategy can be made possible by IT (Wager et al., 2022). Timetables, personnel plans, annual budgets, project descriptions, and development risk factors for the IT Team would all be included in a Meadow Hills Hospital IT strategic plan. IT strategic plans act as an open channel of communication with the capacity to inform the organization about ongoing IT projects. CIOs are crucial to the evaluation and development of the organization's strategic strategy. High-
quality, reasonably priced treatment encourages health in their community as a consequence of using
an IT strategic plan (Moinzad & Akbarzadeh, 2022).

IT Strategic Planning and Healthcare Providers
Meadow Hills Hospital would benefit from updating its electronic health records (EHR) system for patients to receive the best access to care. The Meadow Hills Hospital now uses a basic EHR system, quickly losing its viability. Due to the development of EHR systems, clinical documentation and billing efficiency have considerably increased (Modi & Feldman, 2022). Healthcare organizations benefit from decreased costs, streamlined workflows, and better resource management thanks to an updated EHR system. It is more hospitable and patient-friendly to use an updated EHR in conjunction with a patient portal. EHRs can provide patients more power by giving them access to instructional materials on managing chronic illnesses or preventative care practices, which will give them more influence over their healthcare experience (Wager et al., 2022). Involvement in one's health is encouraged by this empowerment.
The Meadow Hills Clinical Laboratory and Imaging Center cannot provide the same level of electronic access to test findings as other laboratories and imaging centers, according to Meadow Hills Hospital's CEO. Additionally, he worries that the absence of IT assistance may eventually influence medical professionals to choose to work elsewhere. It's crucial to remember that for someone to do their duties to the best of their abilities, the right resources and assistance must be available. Meadow Hills Hospitals must motivate workers to offer feedback by instilling that their work matters significantly to the organization's success and the accomplishment of its objectives. Strategies to achieve ITvalues
Setting up a management team and prioritizing staff IT skill development are required when an organization invests in IT (Wang et al., 2022). The financial department and the IT department must be in close contact throughout the development and use of the IT system. The goal is to incorporate management or business requirements into IT systems (Wang et al., 2022). An
