HAPPENING IN THE WORLD OF HEALTHCARE
In the article primary healthcare for Indian LGBTQ community- a call for inclusion by: Majumder, S., & Kar, A., they explain the difficulties that individuals face with health and the healthcare industry being part of the LGBTQ community. This community faces mental health issues due to the discrimination as stated in the article they call it, “minority stress" which focuses on the constant duress that the LGBTQ population is liable to experience due to discrimination, rejection, and bullying that occurs as a consequence of their minority status (
Majumder, S., & Kar, A. (2022)
”. This is a negative influence of health equity. One other article that helps describe the social inclusion and non-discrimination is “A building blocks strategy for developing bridging and knowledge transfer between ageing and disability care and policy.” In this they describe steps for non-discrimination and inclusion such as “coordination, assessment, empowerment, service delivery, determination and so on (
Salvador-Carulla, L., Putnam, M., Spindel, A., Campbell, M., Heller, T., Mendez, J., Bigby, C., Bickenbach, J., Leonardi, M.,
& LeRoy, B. (2013)
”. This brings a positive step towards health equity.
For my final project I have chosen option two- A gap in equity related to mental health access for veterans. I have chosen this option because my brother is in the marines and with my previous job, I have witnessed how difficult it is for veterans to get access to mental health services and be treated
equally due to their mental health illnesses.
