Dr. Meyers
Mrs. Karla McNabb is the Connections instructor at Independent Living Services and has been working as a Connections instructor 4 years with previous classroom experience in the public school for 25 years. I did the interview by asking her a few questions and she was pleased to answer them accordingly. 1.
Describe your role in the IEP process?
As a connections instructor it is my responsibility to help make sure the consumers which our
referred to as our students are grouped accordingly to their learning style. Each student has goals they are to work on while here at school. It’s my responsibility that there are proper materials available so that they can engage in the lesson each day and do activities that I pick to do with them by knowing their level of communication during class. I collaborate my daily
lesson plans with other instructors to get opinions of what could be improved or what might work for them. I perform assessments as a group to asking certain questions reflecting the lesson taught for the day. 2.

Some parents ask for how they can help at home, and we provide ideas and resources that might encourage their loved ones to strive to be successful. 4.
Describe strategies that can be used to ensure confidentiality of information and instill trust with parents/guardians. Discuss other legal, ethical, and policy responsibilities teachers have related to the educational, developmental, and medical services for individuals with disabilities and their parents/guardians.
If we receive new consumers(students) here at our facility, we ask them to feel out a questionnaire and get information for how they would like us to communicate with them throughout the year. I feel it’s important to establish those trusting relationships with family members. We have their loved ones in our care, and we want the parents to feel that they are safe and will have a good experience learning. As far as confidentiality towards their personal information. No personal information is shared as far as names or their learning disabilities.
5.
Explain how you offer support to parents/guardians of individuals with disabilities. Include discussion of specific types of support and resources you typically provide.
If information is presented to parents/guardians, as an instructor I keep in mind the parent’s perspective on their child’s situation and stay at a communication level that they
