Introduction
When choosing a cultural health profile, I wanted to chose a topic that is not often talked about, and affects many different backgrounds, demographics, and circumstances. To give as much information as possible regarding this subject, I also decided to do my interview in three distinct methods. The most obvious question that came up in all the interviews was how stress and life demands affect sleep. A large portion of the country also agrees that stress and sleep quality are related. According to a poll conducted by the American Psychological Association, 42 percent of adults report getting less than the recommended 6.7 hours of sleep a night, and 43 percent say stress is the culprit that keeps them up at night (CDC, 2022). Oklahoma had similarly
high results, with about 38 percent of men and 35 percent of women reporting getting less than seven hours of sleep a night, according to a 2014 survey by the CDC. More than half of American adults say sleep deprivation has a negative impact on their lives, and nearly half report
feeling even more stressed than before (CDC, 2022). Observations and comments on the most

important topics in all interviews represent information about the relationship between sleep and stress levels.
I decided I wanted to learn more about how some people's sleep patterns are in the community after reading several articles from the CDC because I wanted to have a better understanding. My best friend Kallie, who is a full-time student, works full-time, and attends the pilot school, was the first person I chose to interview only to gain a better knowledge of sleep habits. Insomnia is another sleep issue that Kallie experiences. Her sleep routine is not perfect; she gets, on average, 3-6 hours of sleep a day while managing these obligations, and a sleep condition. Kallie also experiences parasomnia and nocturnal terrors. She claims that she struggles to perform adequately in the majority of her daily activities because of her intense workload, disorders, high levels of stress, and weariness. She also expresses worry about the likely negative effects this will have on her health. “My sleep schedule is the least prioritized thing on my schedule.”
Pre-Reflection
I am not fully outside of any cultural group, but I don't align with most of them either. My history is that I am the product of an interracial marriage, and along with my parents and two
siblings, I would say that I grew up in a suburban area. We grew up in a number of trailer homes because that is all my parents could afford to live in while raising three children. When I reached
seven, my parents, who both worked full-time jobs, purchased their first home, which was a significant achievement for my family. Like my father, my mother did not complete high school or attend college. The first member of my family to graduate from high school and enroll in college immediately after graduation was me, though. Since starting college, I have had a better understanding of how stressful it must be for my mother to balance her social life, finances,

mental health, and sleep. Since my first year of college, I've had trouble sleeping, which I believe
has only made my mental health worse and increased my anxiety to new heights.
One of the main reasons I wanted to write this article about sleep disorders is that I believe there isn't enough discussion about them among college students. Nearly everyone I've met at Oklahoma State or that I know who attends other universities, in my opinion, has difficulties sleeping or keeping to a regular sleep schedule that will keep them alert throughout the day. Lack of sleep throughout the day can have a serious negative impact on a person. It happens frequently in college and can lead to poor concentration, missed deadlines, mood swings, anxiety, depression, brain fog, eating problems, and more (Sleep and Mental Health, 2022). College students who don't get enough sleep frequently get emotionally and physically weary as a result, and are under extreme stress. A mental disability does not make it any easier to
be in a town, or even a different state, away from your family and support network and to be financially independent. When exhaustion is at an all-time high, it can also result in malnutrition,
which is obviously bad and can cause a person's condition to rapidly deteriorate if the right care and attention are not given as soon as possible (Ravesloot et al., 2016).
