One of the side effects of bullying is anxiety (Man, Liu, & Xue, 2021). Bullying can have a negative impact on adolescent mental health as it was found that 32.03% of adolescents will experience bullying between the ages of 12-17 (Man, Liu, & Xue, 2021). Bullying is a repeated aggressive behavior that attacks someone for being different, without consideration of the severe consequences (Man, Liu, & Xue,
2021). Bullies are also victims themselves as they are transferring their hurt onto someone else to try
and feel better (Man, Liu, & Xue, 2021). The Man, Liu, and Xue research paper supports all these ideas of
why bullying is harmful and can have long term impacts on individuals. Therefore, it is critical for the group workshop to focus on achieving this goals and mindsets to help them understand their consequences. Its also important to include cultural awareness, sensitivity and responsiveness as many students do not fully understand different cultures or customs. Students need to be educated that because someone celebrates a holiday they never heard about before or dresses a different way, does not mean they can be targets. To select from a larger pool of interested candidates, its important to spread the word of the group on different social media platforms and locations to increase the views of this opportunity (Tripathi, 2016). Since we are dealing with students and minors, we can have a table or an information and see what parents would be interested in signing their child up. Its also critical to open up the pool to include families and communities to make a collaborative recruitment; this way more individuals are involved and can work together for the common goal (Kizan, 2023). If parents, guardians, and community are involved, this can help influence the students to join in on the goal. It would also be beneficial to have different age group meet and do multiple workshops tailored to each school archetype (elementary, middle and high school). Group rationale how does the literature inform the need and efficacy of your identified group topic what are the specifics to be mindful of for your groups developmental and cognitive level and needs.
Literature informs us the need to present ideas in a clear and direct manner. Children will not understand
complex literature and research studies. Therefore, facts need to be presented one at a time. Using a model like STAC can help counselors gain confidence in helping students understand the negative consequences of bullying (Midgett, 2022). Role playing can help middle schoolers understand the
