Read the discussion prompts. In 200–250 words, create an initial post using the prompts to guide your content. Then, respond to at least two of your peers’ posts in a substantive manner. “I agree” or “Good point” are not accepted as substantive responses to your peers.
Discussion Prompts: Initial Post
Even though you did not review many cancers in this course, cancers continue to be one of the leading causes of deaths for humans.

, research one form of cancer. Include basic information in your post about the cancer, statistics, and any interesting facts from the website. Why did you choose this type of cancer? Please do not duplicate another student’s selection.
Discussion Prompts: Responses Posts
1.
Include information from ANOTHER source (other than the CDC) about the cancer that you are responding to. You should include extra information that the initial post may have missed (such as prognosis or treatment). It is recommended that you also utilize the LIRN Library when conducting research for this activity. You can access the LIRN Library in your Canvas navigation bar.

Breast cancer is a topic close to my heart because it's been a player in my family's story. My mom's side has seen both triumph and loss – my grandma conquered it and had a mastectomy, while my aunt faced a different outcome and lost her battle. This personal connection fuels my interest in understanding and sharing more about breast cancer especially since I am considered at high risk of developing this type of cancer.
Breasts are intricate landscapes of lobules, ducts, and connective tissue. Sometimes, things go awry, and cells start behaving unpredictably, leading to different types of breast cancer, like invasive ductal carcinoma and invasive lobular carcinoma, each with its own characteristics (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.).
In terms of numbers, in 2020, over 200,000 new cases of female breast cancer were reported in the U.S (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.). Mammograms play a crucial role in early detection, acting as superheroes before the situation gets too complex. Beyond genetic factors, lifestyle choices matter. Incorporating physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight,
and moderating alcohol intake are all factors that can contribute to lowering the risk (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.).
When it comes to treatments, there are options that includes surgery, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological treatments, and radiation therapy. Clinical trials are like pioneers exploring new frontiers in treatment options, while alternative medicine offers additional perspectives (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.).
Here's a salute to the survivors and a moment of reflection for those we've lost. Advocating for more research, raising awareness, and envisioning a future where breast cancer is a thing of the past – that's the goal. Here's to hope, healing, and progress!
