I attended East Georgia College in Swainsboro, GA and received my AA in Biology in 2012. From there, I attended Georgia Regents University (currently Augusta University) in Augusta, GA and obtained my BS in Dental Hygiene in 2015. I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist for almost 9 years and I must say, so much has drastically changed over the years. In fact, I returned to Augusta University in 2021 and took pre-requisites for the dental program as I had high hopes to become a dentist however, the concept of true patient care and rapport has diminished to the point where I’ve decided it’s time to change my career. As a professional who thrives on ensuring patients (people in general) are treated properly and with respect, I decided it may be best that I leave the clinical side of healthcare and pursue the administrative role so that I can oversee the entire operations of a facility to make the real difference in people’s lives that I desire. This course will surely help me to understand the management techniques needed to govern a healthcare facility. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was implemented to give those who do not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare nor have affordable coverage provided by their employers, access to healthcare (Burns, 2). This value-added service allowed millions of people to access medical care at a reduced cost, which consequently provided them an opportunity to receive quality care. Value-added services are additional services and/or benefits offered to patients to promote health and well-being that extends into their everyday lives. These services promote behavior change by means of supporting and educating patients of the importance of lifestyle changes that promote better outcome of their conditions and are cost-effective(Kober, 1). One example of a value-added service is diabetes management program. The program provides patients with individualized plans that cater to their specific needs to control blood sugar levels. As a dental hygienist, I have also had patients who are pregnant or who have diabetes allotted extra cleanings annually beyond what their insurance covers to promote healthy oral care. 1. Kober S.
