Task Instructions:
For this task, you will need a child between the ages of 0-23 months old. You are to simulate that this child will be coming into your care from next week.

Note: If working in children services, you are welcome to invite a family
in your service to participate with permission and supervision from your supervisor.
o
If unable to implement in your service due to centre policies (or you are
currently not working within a regulated service), please find a child and family within this age group and ask them to be involved. This could be a friend, neighbour or family member.
Please ensure that parents/carers complete attached permission slip prior to implementing.
Please complete the following:

Design and implement a list of questions covering the topics below which will assist you to discuss with a parent or carer their child’s needs and the best way to create a smooth transition into care. Your question topics should include the following:
Sleep routines, rituals and duration.
Mealtime routine.
Specific food requirements - preferences and consistency.
Bottle feeding - breast, formula (brand).
Nappy/toileting needs.
Specific health needs e.g. allergies, disabilities etc.
Cultural preferences.
Clothing preferences.
Specific cues and individual preferences e.g. preferred comforters, words of meaning, tiredness, hunger etc.
How would your parent like to be involved in the service.
Any additional information you feel would help assist the child’s transition from home to care.

Ask your questions to the parent or carer using positive communication
including open body language, open ended questioning and appropriate tone of voice.

Using dot points, document their answers.
o
