Identify an issue that the agency is currently dealing with and describe reasons for current concern. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified a concern regarding screening in Black men for prostate cancer from 2012- 2020. They found that there was a widening prostate cancer disparity
within black men including US born and immigrants as they had increasing prostate cancer rates. The CDC conducted a study which involved examining the data collected from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). Some limitations regarding this action that the CDC took would be that since the BFFRS is self-reported, these prevalence rates may be overestimated or underestimated. Some respondents also did not answer all the questions which could lead to missing data. 2. Why is it important for non-governmental organizations to be involved in public health activities? 2 points. a. By being involved in public health activities, non-governmental organizations can better identify specific concerns and gather more personal data. They have a complementary role to the government by reaching the populations and ideas that the government may not be able to reach. They are also able to create community engagement and trust much quicker as they represent the people as a smaller, more personal group. They are also mandated to do good for the community to remain as a tax-exempt organization which keeps them running. 3. Choose a specific health problem. How might federal, state, and local levels of government divide responsibility for the issue? List 2-3 ideas. 2 points. a. The covid-19 outbreak, was a major health problem that imapcted everyone and all parts of the government. They were able to divide responsibilities by issuing different tasks to the federal, state, and local levels. The federal level bought the vaccines and worked with resource allocation and coordination of supplies. At the state level, they decided who would get these vaccines and resources first. They also worked with the implementation of guidelines and managing the healthcare system capacity. The local government would work on enforcing these guidelines and other community outreach programs that could better educate residents of preventative measures and resources. 4. How might federal, state and local levels of government work together to address it? List 2-3 ideas. 2 points. a. Regarding the covid outbreak, all three levels of government have one primary goal: to be able to reduce the spread. They do so by implementing rules like mask mandates, and requiring to see vaccination cards at specific locations. They also worked together by sharing necessary information that would support another level of government in a certain way like updating about the status of the outbreak, providing data, and
