***RESTORATIVE/REGENERATIVE***
Include a description of the selected date’s field activity with distinct detail of the interactions with preceptor that demonstrate the nurse’s role in promoting the sphere of care (i.e., education, collaboration, communication, referrals, resource allocation, services)
- An elderly gentleman, 89 years old participant, presents with Multiple Joint Pain, Angina Pectoris, Coronary Artery Disease, Hearing Loss, and Macular Degeneration in the left eye. He reports a 6/10 pain scale for lower back and right knee pain occurring a few times a week. Currently relying on a cane due to pain, he utilizes modalities such as Heat Therapy (utilizing hot
packs or warm compresses for muscle relaxation, improved blood circulation, and reduced joint stiffness) and Range of Motion (ROM) Exercises (gentle exercises aiming to enhance joint flexibility without causing extra pain). In addition, both Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT) and RN plays a role in educating the patient about joint protection, proper body mechanics, and effective pain management strategies.
Include a description with specific details of the rationale for how the activities of the nurse
are related to the documented sphere of care.
- Helping participant learn about their health encourages them to take an active role in getting better. Knowing how Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physical Therapy (PT) can help with joint pain provides a sense of control over health. This knowledge helps member deal with and lessen joint pain, making them more involved in staying healthy.
Learning about restorative care also gives insights into how O.T and P.T manage pain. It helps patients not just with current issues but also shows that these therapies prevent more problems. When patients understand that O.T and P.T work to stop further problems with function, strength, and flexibility, they want to be a part of their recovery. This involvement improves their
quality of life. Knowing the whole rehabilitation process lets patients see how O.T and P.T work together to bring back overall well-being, making their recovery efforts more effective.
