Report
University of the People Week 4 1. What is the report about? The report will be about ecosystems and human well-being. 2. List two new things you learned from reading this report. What are they? And explain them. Two things I have learned from reading this report are; 1. The importance of the ecosystem as it relates to human health. Ecosystems have a wide range of effects on human health. Water and air quality Ecosystems such as forests, wetlands, and oceans help to purify the air and water we breathe. Wetlands and other natural systems filter and clean water, removing pollutants and impurities, while trees and plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, assisting in maintaining air quality. Overall, ecosystem health is directly related to human health, and safeguarding and preserving natural settings is critical for guaranteeing the well-being of present and future generations. Understanding the value of ecosystem services is essential for making informed decisions about land use, resource management, and conservation initiatives.
1. How have the ecosystems changed and impacted human health? Ecosystems have undergone significant changes over time, many of which have directly and indirectly impacted human health. Food Security: Changes in ecosystems, including soil degradation, loss of pollinators, and shifts in agricultural productivity, can impact food security and nutrition. Reduced agricultural yields and the loss of natural pollinators can affect the availability and diversity of food, potentially leading to malnutrition and related health issues. Mental Health: Urbanization and the loss of natural spaces can contribute to a disconnect from nature, potentially impacting mental health and well-being. A lack of access to green spaces and natural ecosystems has been related to stress, anxiety, and depression. Recognizing these connections is crucial for developing strategies to mitigate the negative impacts of economic changes on human well-being.
